We’re getting Summer Intern ready and it spurred some inspiration to share some of our favorite HR tips for On-boarding to create a retention-focused strategy. So what are we doing specifically to prepare at CEPHR? Get your pen and paper ready!
- Reviewing internal needs to assess via Job Analysis
- Conducting Compensation Benchmarking
- Seeking feedback from the current team
- Creating Job Description, Interview Questions, and frameworks to give a Realistic Job Preview to find the best match for the role
- Reviewing internal systems, processes, and tools/access needed
- Preparing creative Welcome Materials
- Creating the Summer On-Boarding Plan and activities
There are so many more, and a few of these we’ve been working on over the past few months already. That’s right: Preparation for your new hire is key. Trust us that they notice if you hastily throw things together last-minute and aren’t prepared for their arrival, including a pre-check in or two. That’s not the first impression you want to create to engage and retain the new hire you’ve spent all this time and money recruiting and on-boarding.
We hope this post gives you an idea of timelines and how prepared you should be as you’re looking to on-board your new hire. Start the process early! Managers and their teams need to be just as involved (and more so) than Human Resources, even. Yes, this applies even if you are an HR team! First impressions and experiences matter. We hope you’ve enjoyed these tips. We’d love to hear your own favorite On-boarding Tips and best practices!
